Frank Griffith’s Nonet punches above its nine-piece weight with music spanning 1932 to 1966, the programme includes: It Don’t Mean a Thing, Daydream, Satin Doll, Take The A Train, Lush Lifeand Rhumbop (from Drum is a Woman-1956) as well as Ellington/Strayhorn instrumental classics: Raincheck, Sophisticated Lady, It’s Glory, Chelsea Bridge, I Let a Song Go Out of My Heart and C Jam Blues.

We celebrate the music of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn with the classics (and some forgotten masterpieces) that forged jazz – from Mood Indigo, Take the A’ Train, Lush Life to th rarely performed Rhumm Bop (‘Drum is A Woman’) and The Blues (Black, Brown & Beige’).
Recreating the trio format of my ‘Love You Madly’  album that marked the centenary of Ellington’s birth (with Tony Coe and Brian Priestley – 33 Records, 1999) I’ll be drawing on the talents of US reeds (and stupendous clarinet) player Frank Griffith, and pianist Richard Wetherall. Twenty years on, and even better!
