Jazz Vocal Workshop with LG – 16 May
Venue: LG’s Home Studio, Headingley, Leeds
Louise runs a jazz vocal workshop for singers on Saturday 16 May at her home studio in Leeds. The workshop welcomes singers wanting to become more confident jazz performers and improvisers, and also soul, pop and classical singers who’d like to take a freer jazz approach to their sound and performance. Bring your own material and try some new jazz repertoire.
Participants also have the valuable opportunity to direct a live accompanying trio – working with some of the best young musicians on the UK scene: Sam Leak, Simon Read, & Sam Gardner.
Louise brings depth of experience and expertise both as a performing artist and educator. She was course leader at Leeds College of Music for the jazz and postgraduate programmes 2007-2011, has taught and run workshops in most major UK conservatoires, was voice tutor for the Jamie Aebersold clinics in the UK.
£75 for the day (£60 full time student) – includes lunch & refreshments. To book or for more information: louise@jazzmine.co.uk or 07813 684077
Louise Gibbs Quartet in Hull
Venue: Albermarle Music Centre, 60 Ferensway, Hull
Louise Gibbs Quartet – Sam Leak (piano), Simon Read (double bass), Sam Gardner (drums) will perform a lunchtime concert and offer a jazz ensemble workshop for University of Hull. We’ll be playing specially arranged excerpts from the Seven Deadly Sings song suite, a preview of the latest Missing project, peppered with some of our favourite jazz standards – no doubt featuring music by Thelonious Monk amongst others.
The performance will be followed by a workshop open to all students and observers who’d like to gain some insight into how jazz ensembles work and improvise. Students will have the opportunity to present their own ensembles and to play with the LGQ band to discover how to improvise with more fluency and confidence.

Mooching in Miami
Venue: University of Miami, Coral Gables, Miami, Florida
Mooching in Miami with family for this month, and working on the new “Missing” project. Visiting University of Miami and Professor Rachel Lebon this week. Checking out music at The Corner this Tuesday at North Miami Avenue. Is there a jazz and jazz latin scene in Miami? It must be deep underground? Will report my discoveries as they are unearthed. (Well if I can’t dig at the allotment I’ll have to dig another way and elsewhere.)
